It launched on February 2, 1999 as a joint venture between Nickelodeon and the Children's Television Workshop (CTW), now known as Sesame Workshop. At its launch, Noggin was mainly aimed at a pre-teen audience. In 2002, Sesame Workshop sold its stake in Noggin to Nickelodeon, but it continued to co-produce content for the brand. The same year, Noggin became a sister brand to Nickelodeon's Nick Jr. and it shifted its target audience to preschoolers.
